Award-winning animations to screen at Tehran event

A selection of award-winning Iranian animations has been scheduled to screen at a cinematheque in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Some of Iran’s finest animation makers will attend the public screening event, which is scheduled to take place at the Niavaran Cultural Center in Tehran at 8pm local time on Saturday, July 15.

Among the animations to be screened include: ‘Dash Akol’, directed by Hajar Mehrani; ‘The Role of Each Fret’, directed by Maryam Farahzadi; ‘Junk Girl’, a joint project by Mohammad Zare and Shalaleh Kheiri; and ‘The Little Boy,’ written and directed by Mona Abdollah Shahi.

Animations ‘Mr. O’, directed by Golnaz Goudarzi, ‘Icky’, by Parastou Cardgar, and ‘Blue’, also by Farahzadi, are also included at the three-hour Tehran event.

‘Dash Akol’ is an adaption of the short story by the same name by renowned Iranian writer Sadeq Hedayat (1903-1951).

‘The Role of Each Fret’ is rendered in the style of Persian miniature. It was the winner of the First Prize at 2015 Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival, Los Angeles, and also the 2016 Noor Iranian Film Festival, Florida. The nine-minute animation is a story of a couple in love.

‘Blue’ has so far been selected at over seven international festivals. The film tells about the struggles it takes to be different.

The co-directed animation ‘Junk Girl’ is a 2014 film created in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Province. It is an adaptation of namesake poem from American film director Tim Burton’s book ‘The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories’.

The 2015 animated film ‘The Little Boy’ tells the story of people leaving a town because of a military order. However, a little boy wants to stay and complete his own mission.
